Weekend Plans

Do you have a busy weekend planned? Johnny is working all weekend so I plan on taking advantage of that and get my to do list done! It looks something like this...

*Finish embroidery

*Finish bracelet's

*Go to Michael or/and Hobby Lobby

*Work on new header

*Write store policies

*photo shoot ?

*make pecan pie and red velvet cupcakes

*grandparents birthday party

*Wrap presents

*Finish my Christmas Cards for card exchange

*dye hair (red highlights maybe)

*finish wreath #2 and #3

I keep telling myself that I will not decorate until after Thanksgiving but I am not sure if I will make it our not...

Carrie's 500th Post - Woo Hoo!!!

Hello everyone -- it's Jen from tatertots & jello! I'm so excited and honored that Carrie asked me to help her celebrate her 500th post!!! Now I have to say -- I think Carrie is just the best. There are many reasons I think this, some are:

• First of all she's so cute.
• She's also very creative.
  
• I love her kitchen!
  
• She made the greatest dollhouse with little people to go in it.
  
• She is an awesome mom - she is always talking about all the fun that she has with her family.
• And she is a wonderful blogging friend!
  

I am so glad to have gotten to know her through the blogs!

She asked me if I would do a little tutorial in honor of her big 500th post. And I thought this little lamp makeover would be perfect because it looks like something that could be found in her cute kitchen - although maybe with a little more pink on it!
Turn your lamp from dull to darling in 30 minutes flat!

Here's my little Walmart lamp I bought to lighten up my desk area in my kitchen.
It's cute, if kind of boring. But I knew I could do something fun to brighten her up!

• First, I got three pieces of paper and taped them together lengthwise.
  
• Then I made an outline of the lampshade by tracing the outline with a pencil.
  
• I rolled the lampshade across the paper while tracing the outline.
  
• Then I cut out the outline to make a template -- I added about an inch to the top and the bottom of the outline.
  
• Then I traced the outline on some fabric that matched my kitchen. I wrapped the fabric around the lampshade so it matched up with an extra inch on the top and an inch on the bottom.
  
• Now, you can use spray adhesive, but I used a glue gun. I turned the seam down on the fabric that would show. Then I wrapped it tight around the lampshade and glued the two sides of the fabric together - pulling as tight as I could. I went down the seam pulling tightly as possible. There might still be a couple of ripples in the fabric, these will go away when you attach the fabrc to the top of the lampshade and the bottom of the lampshade. So do that now.
  
• Run a line of glue around the top inside of the lampshade and attach the material. It might be helpful for you to cut a few vertical lines in the fabric so it will lay flat. Do the same thing to the bottom.
  
• To cover up the glued edge on the top and bottom I covered it up with some cute ribbon. I turned the shade upside down and glued the ribbon down.
• Then I made the embellishemnt. I cut out a large burlap circle. Then I glued the edges under. Then I cut out a circle of the coordinating fabric that is a litle smaller than the puffy circle. Then I also cut out another circle of burlap.
  
• I glued it onto the lamp and added a vintage button to the middle.
• The last thing I did was add some ribbon to the base of the lamp. To get it to lay flat I made small cuts half way through the ribbon after each circle. Then I glued down the bottom of the ribbon first and put a dot on each part of the ribbon than was cut.
• And you are done! Now you have a one-of-a-kind lamp!

Now, I know we have another big holiday before, but I can't help but get excited for Christmas this year! It's really strange, actually. I'm more of a Halloween girl and not Christmas...but it seems it's turned around this year! :P

This year I'm having to go financially light (as I'm sure a lot of you are) with gifts and decorations. That being said, I've decided that I'm going to hand-make everything that I can this year! Not only is it cheaper, but it's always super-fun to make things, right?!

Thrifty Thursday!

We did good this week on Thrifty Thursday Noah got this lava lamp for $3.00 which I thought was a really good dealI bought this coffee cup hanger but I am going to use to hang my jewelery on I probably will repaint it but I haven't had a chance to yet
Halloween t-shirts for 1.00 a piece (i will probably wear them more than just Halloween but who knows).

and last but not least my thrifty skirt for .75 (J. Crew) also the boots are new but there were not that cheap but I really have been wanting some new boots.

Cute huh!

Party and give away time!

Halloween Party

The Halloween Party was great fun Gregg and my self won the costume contest but at this point he had lost most of his costumeI didn't not get pictures of everyone Heather was a witch we had a mac and a pc, a convict, cowboy, princess, football player, another witch and then some people did not dress up!

Running around like a chicken with its head cut off

Apparently that is a southern saying I didn't realize that until today so if you don't know what it means it means running around like a crazy person trying to get 500 things finished in a day.I am very excited about our Halloween party this year I had a last minute costume change I was going as a 50's girl with poodle skirt and all but it just was not coming together. I am very happy with my new costume and it only cost me 50 cents yes you read it right.

Wordless Wednesday

Tasty Tuesday /Pumpkin Patch

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and I though yeah I don't have to leave the house today I will finish things up for the party on Saturday. Nope coffee pot decided today he was going to spring a leak so I had to get out in the rain but I came back with caramel chocolate cappuccino . YUM

Ok now our recipe this week I have shared this one before but its so good and easy its worth repeating!

2 lbs of Hamburger brown and drained

2 can of corn (one drained )

1 can of peas (drained)

1 can of carrots

16 oz can of whole tomatoes (mash to get all the juices)

1 can of diced tomatoes

1 can of beef broth

1 clove of garlic minced

med onion diced

salt and pepper to taste

Put everything in a large pot cook on low for a couple hours or the crock pot. Serve with cornbread yummy!

Thrifty Thursday!

Lets start thrifty Thursday off with this cute little bubble gum machine its too cute (I give the gumballs a day in this house but I really want to fill it with rubber bouncy balls.)

Now this great owl plaque I am going to paint it just not sure what color yet any suggestions?

And the best is this lovely Thermos for 4.00 it goes so good with my picnic basket I am planning on adding to this collection.

Salsa and Chips

I have been promising my salsa recipe sorry it took so long I think from now on I am going to make Tuesday's post a new recipe I just don't have time to post to my cooking blog alot but I have lots of easy recipes to share. I am all about the easy and good so here goes...

(I used fresh veggies from our garden all summer but I also made this with canned tomatoes and it turned out just as good)

6 to 8 med to large Roma tomatoes or 2 large cans of crushed or whole tomatoes

2 cloves of garlic - minced

Green bell pepper -cut thinly

1 jalapeno pepper chopped (remove the seeds for less heat)

1 med onion chopped thinly

1/4 c. or less or more depending on your taste of cilantro

juice of one lime

salt and pepper to taste

par boil tomatoes (couple of minutes until you can remove skins)

mash tomatoes and bring everything to boil simmer until onions are transparent

puree everything in a blender or food processor

cool in fridge and eat up!

Okay I am so excited that The Goonies are coming on tonight Tivo is ready I love this movie. Noah is just as excited as me, Brinsley and Johnny don't quite get it.

The Weekend

Hello how was everyone's weekend ours was wet! Although the sun did make an appearance today but it was cold.We spent the weekend watching Halloween movies and football. Halloween has always been my favorite scary movie so we decided to watch the Rob Zombie version all I can say is I didn't sleep very well afterwards I watched a bunch of episodes of King of the Hill just to get the images out of my head.

Dixie enjoy the movies too I pretty much lived in my pj's all weekend but hey thats coolI had a lot of time to work on crafts so I made some of these button bracelets

pom poms that I am now hooked on making I have a special idea for theseand a cute Halloween pin

I well leave ya'll with a little Halloween trivia...In the 1978 movie Halloween it had such a low budget the mask that Michael Myers wore was actually a William Shatner mask painted white.

A Walking Workout and the Weekend

I just found this picture on my computer thought I would share I thought it was pretty cool and if are wondering why the pictures lately have been webcam shots I am in the process of moving all my pics and files to my new/my sisters old computer so I have been improvising.

I love to walk for exercise but lately around here the weather has been so bad that I haven't been able to and I would love to have a treadmill but honestly we are at maxi um capacity as it is so I found this work out for people like me that wish they had a treadmill but don't so I thought I would share (its seems to be a good work out so far).

We really don't have a whole lot planned for this weekend tonight Brinsley is staying home so were are pigging out on pizza and having a Halloween movie thon. We were wanting to go to a corn maze this weekend but I think we are going to wait till the weather is better.

I found this cute girl (she is a bank). While at the thrift store as soon as my esty store is open she will be for sale. I hope once I get everything together I can open the store.

Thrifty Thursday!

Today has just been one of those days that bargains just fell in my lap it started with Sonic's happy hour if you are not familiar drinks and slushies are 1/2 price from 2-4 I had to have me a watermelon slushie. So I needed to go to the dollar store to get some cleaning supplies and guess what they had pumpkins forthree dollars a piece so of course I had to grab some up I would have gotten more but they did have a whole lot to choose from

The cutest started from there 1.00 headband from the dollar tree
Brinsley and I got these cute rings out of a bubble gum machine for .50 (they are so cool).
who can resist cute socks :0 (1.00 a pair).

Paperback Pumpkins and Some Blog Love

I hope every one's week is going well...Brinsley aka the daughter told me the other day that I never post pictures of them anymore so here we go ya'll say "hey". (Noah and Johnny were unaware of the picture taking apparently). Now on to more important things CRAFTS!! J/K

I know a lot of people made these last year I just thought I would show you how for the people that had not seen them yet.

Materials:

Old paperbacks (no good books were harmed in the making of this craft scouts honor!!)

glue

pumpkin face (I printed mine off of google but feel free to draw your own)

green pipe cleaners

1. start folding the pages including the cover in toward the middle

2. When you are done you should have something that looks like this you can glue the ends together if you need to. Also the thicker the book the better
3. Take your pipe cleaners and twist them around a pencil to create a little curly q stem

4. Cut out your pumpkin face out and glue it on the book

5. Insert your cute little stems in now6. And you have a wonderful recycled little pumpkin!

Also I wanted to share my good luck Crane from Janel how great is he I have him next to me at my sewing machine. Ha I can use all the good luck in that department.

It Pays to Go See Your Parents

I have been hinting that I would love to have some of my moms old Pyrex that she does not use so yesterday I came home with these beauties

Also this quilt that my grandmother made for me when I was little I loved this quilt so much I am very proud to have it I remember it being on my bed for so long I love it. I think about how long it took her to hand sew all those little dutch dolls.

Summer is officially over because I am back to being a brunette I do this every year when I am done with summer I go back brown, when I am ready for summer I do the blond thing what ever it makes me happy!

ok I posted a new post about twenty minutes ago for some reason its under Sunday post and looks a hot mess but I just got tired of messing with it, is there and easier way to load pictures without it messing up everything.
