Fake Mantle DIY

In this house we do not have a mantle, which I really miss! I have been seeing these cute electric heaters everywhere and the idea was born!

The heater's "hearth" is actually an old headboard that we (Johnny) cut down to the right size to fit the heater.

 For this project you need:
3  1x6
Wood glue or liquid nails
nails
old pallet
2 shelf brackets

Cut 2 of the 1x6 to the height you want your mantle
with the other 1x6 cut it to fit the top, where you shelf will sit, attach it flush with nails. Save the other piece you will cut this for your shelf.
Next, we attached the pallet slates to the backside of the frame with liquid nails, after the glue dries (24hrs) cut the pallet ends off.
add your shelving brackets and attach your shelf
I choose to paint mine white but it would look great stained too
I have to say I'm in love with it! It makes our den feel so cozy and warm!
Whatcha' you think?
